You find this surprising? You couldn't have guessed this ahead of time, without ever setting foot in Henderson/Vegas?

It's. The. DESERT. People who CHOOSE to live in a desert are almost certainly going to be people who "only like high heat and sunshine" and "don't like rain" or snow.

Well, what's so funny about your reply here is, Loveland, Colorado, where we moved from, is considered desert. We honestly don't know why it would be considered desert, but it is. Loveland never/ever got as hot as it gets here and they get plenty of rain, as well as some pretty hefty t-storms and, of course, snowstorms. We know from living there for four years.

Palm Springs gets hot, but they can also get snow.

When it comes to wind, we've never seen so much wind as is here in Henderson. And, with the wind here, plenty of dust hits the air. We had wind in Loveland, but not nearly as many days of it as here. Even southeastern Wyoming doesn't get the number of days of wind that is here.

With the amount, which is very little, of rain that hits Henderson/Vegas metro areas, there isn't much "green" here. Have never encountered that either.

When we made the decision to move to Henderson, we were thinking mainly of getting away from "Old Man Winter", a lake for our boat and the 14 1/2 million dollar rodeo in Vegas each December. Northwest Nevada gets a winter we know, but not nearly the winter that any part of the Front Range/Eastern Slope of Colorado gets. And, as far as our boat goes, we are currently getting it ready to sell and haven't even put it on Lake Mead yet and probably won't.

It is a myth that Las Vegas gets hot in the summertime. It rarely exceeds 112.

We like the summertime warmth - but we also like winter snow. So, we have the best of both worlds: we live in Henderson in the summertime so we can enjoy the warm weather, and we live in Park City Utah during ski season. I've measured over 600 inches of snow in my driveway (total for the year).

We are not alone; many Las Vegans live in Park City for ski season.

Um, wind? I don't know what the wind is like in Henderson, but Carson and Reno have major wind storms.

Wind here can be horrible.

Guess we'll just have to live there to find out. All we do know, since living here, the wind can really, really spark up the dust in the air. So much that Vegas can be hardly seen, if at all, from where we live. Darn near looks like an approaching hurricane! Palm trees bending over.

So, you're saying that Park City ski season is better than Lee Canyon ski season (40 miles west of Vegas)? We like summertime warmth also, but not the summertime temps that Henderson can get. Us, in our mid 70's, aren't even suppose to go out in 90 plus heat.

Well, they told you Hendersen was hot before you moved, and that worked out well.

Wind won't be as strong as Wyoming.

Well, Loveland could get hot as well, but Henderson really outdoes the heat in Loveland. As you know, many people have to experience something before truly believing what they are told. IOW, there are those that simply don't want any more people moving to their area, so they will tell a potential mover things about the area that may not be totally true. We've had that happen before.

Then why ask questions?

Just go by published data (ie: crime, weather).
