My roommate's cat is understimulated due to lack of attention. It has a tendency to wander into my room and has now broken two lamps. The first lamp my roommate paid me for. She knows he broke the second one and hasn't offered to pay for it. How do I bring this up? I hate conflict and have avoided it with her, leaving me in a pretty bad living situation. (She owes me $2500 on top of the lamp, she's disgustingly messy, doesn't change her cat litter, and refuses to take the cat to the vet, which in turn makes me worry about my dog's health).

Basically, how do I gently say "can you give me $50 for a broken lamp" without it being awkward?

Umm..."Hey, dude/girl, your crazy *** cat broke another one of my lamps. When do you think you can buy me another one? Oh, and have you thought about changing that thing's litter box? It reeks!"

Close your door and the cat won't go in your room.

You have bigger issues than a cat in your unit....get rid of the roommate and sue her for the money you're owed.
