Does anyone know why my old apartment is charging me? The letter reads this is a demand for payment of 814.78 which is the amount due after forfeitiing your security deposit. 500 for carpet? 70 for holes in wall and they are charging me for cleaning the apartment? 150$$ they also put 100$ for painting.. we didn't leave the apartment that terrible and I thought they had to replace everything anyways what is this? Also what does forfeiting my deposit mean?
How about first telling us the circumstances surrounding your departure; was this a lease break? Did you fail to give property notice? Forfeitures usually deal with lease break issues so a bit more details is needed.
They don't HAVE to replace anything between tenants so think again. When you leave it needs to be in the same condition it was in when you got it or better. Nothing on that list seems unreasonable just looking at it so more details may help.
I wonder if OP is moving into the income restricted apartment he planned on lying his way into........
OP- you do have to leave an apartment clean and they don't usually replace anything unless you damaged it. Did your landlord give you a checklist of things to be done when moving out? They are usually very specific and you get charged for not complying. My last apartment even required me to putty and sand all the nail holes. They were that picky.
Did you not pay your last month's rent? Some people do this thinking that's what the security deposit is for and the landlord may have applied it to an unpaid month and still had damages they need to charge you for.
