You're girlfriend is right. Sometimes its best to let things go and move on with your life. This sounds like its one of those times.

Also (and I may be wrong about this) but I do believe in a lot of cases state laws regarding rentals may not apply when the landlord occupies the same premises as the tenant. If that's true it may limit any points you could make a claim for, if you even have one to begin with.
