Retired and hopefully will be downsizing within the year. I'm looking at all the things we have accumulated in 40 years and starting to "get rid of things". Does anyone have any tips on what to do with the pictures we have? Thank goodness the last 7 years or so are on discs. Most are in albums but some still loose. I don't think our adult kids are especially interested in sharing them. I was thinking of taking a few from each album to re album and getting rid of the rest. Has anyone done that and regretted it? Any advice is appreciated.TIA Grammy
My wife has scan the old ones and put tehm on CD and how DVDs.The new ones never really get printed that much now. We ru the like a slide show when wanted and send copies with christmas cards to realtives.
PLEASE! Go through all the pictures and write down names and dates on the back. Just do it to the best of your ability. It hurts my heart that I have all these wonderful pictures that should be significant to me but I don't know who so many of the people are.
scanning them all to disc is the best option but sooooooooooooooo time consuming as at most places you need to scan each one individually. you can spend months feeding them in..
Scan them, QVC & HSN both have easy to use scanners, and scan the back of each one also for the names etc. It's well worth the time.

Many times I have seen personal photos at garage/estate sales,
or just thrown away.
Many years ago I was at a garage sale looking through a box
containing old papers. In the box were letters and mementos
from a soldier in the Pacific during WW2. Also in the box were
several dairies from the 40s and 50s, each day faithfully recorded.
I told the lady conducting the sale that the box contained personal
information. She said she had recently moved into the house and
these things were left. She had told relatives to pick up the box
but even the daughter of the old lady who previously lived there
was not interested. The lady told me if the box did not sell [$5]
she was going to throw it away.
I sadly walked away, got in my car and left... only to drive around
the block and stop again and buy the box. I still have it. Now that
I too am older, I wonder when I die what will be the fate of all my
photos... and the box of memories of someone I never knew.
I know it does seem sad, but I think this is why I want to set a plan in place for things like that. I can tell already that my kids do not have the extra room or time to take care of our things when we are no longer able. I like the idea of scanning and also breaking down albums into a smaller one for us. Maybe I can make a small album for each adult childs family, but not an overwhelming amount of pictures. Keep the ideas coming! TIA Grammy
