This reminds me of my recent airplane spare parts purchase. One of the navigation lights on the wingtips went out. We checked it and found that the bulb was OK, and it was just a loose connection. I decided to order a spare bulb for 'just in case'. The regular price was $18 to $20 a bulb. I found an aviation supply store had them on sale for $12 a piece and only $2.99 shipping so I ordered two.

After they arrived, I put them in the cabinet and decided to rearranged the shelf. Lo and behold I found two sets each with two bulbs tucked in a corner. So now I have 6 navigation light bulbs! We have flown our plane for the last 5 years without even burning out one bulb. Oh well, I plan to continue flying as long as I live so I have plenty of navigation light bulbs to last until I am at least 100 years old ;-)

We sent the escrow money to buy the empty lot next to our FL house this week, with closing in two weeks after title check etc.

We were thinking of contacting the owners to see if they would sell it, earlier this year. It's easy to check FL tax assessor roles to find owners and their addresses. We held off though because that would have not given us much negotiation power. DH was recently down there for business and stayed at our house. He called to tell me there there was a for sale sign on the property. We negotiated down to a reasonable price over several weeks.

It's live oaks, pines and is undeveloped. Our son asked us what plans we have for it. Uh, none right now. Land stash?

Same here; I actually went outside my comfort zone and opened some CDs in online-only banks (checking them out thoroughly first)... Went from .25% interest in my local credit union to 1.80%... Of course, that's still pitiful compared to 12% back in my parents' day, but have to maximize what interest I can.

Wow, good deal otterhere!

jean_ji, garage for the new boat? With a rental apartment maybe? How large are the two lots?

You can't go wrong buying land, they aren't making more of the stuff. (Will Rogers?)

Went garage sailing with dh yesterday, found a perfectly good Revere Ware teakettle in a free box. The whistler doesn't work but it holds water just fine.

Together, they are slightly over 1/2 an acre. For now, I'm happy to keep it as a unimproved wooded lot with low taxes.

Finally bought a huge colander - you know, one of those metal things you drain pasta in. I need it for when I pick vegetables from my garden and hose them off. My 36 chile plants are producing amazingly well so this will make things move more quickly when I roast my chile outdoors on my grill.
