Women with men's haircuts in your senior years? I don't get it. (2014, states)

I apologize if this has been mentioned but since theOP is so highly offended by "man short" hair cuts on women:
1. Maybe retirement has forced the person to have to cut their own hair because they don't want to spend extra on a hair cut.
2. Maybe these women have RA, bad shoulders, hands/arms/shoulders that just don't work well enough to take care of a "Do" you would approve of. I wouldn't give a rat's patoot what you think.
Get a life OP, there are more important things to worry about in life. You come across as a very superficial person with a comment like that.

Of course there are more important things to worry about in life, but having an opinion on a given hairstyle does NOT make a person superficial. Again I ask, why the attack? It is fascinating to note that it is apparently impossible to have a rational, calm discussion about hairstyles without being insulting and going into attack mode.
Here is my take, I just don't care anymore, I completely happy taking care of myself and no longer feel the need to preen myself for fat slovenly men that don't stand a chance anyways
Some older woman may have borderline underlying health issues that aren't addressed by their physicians: hypothyroid issues, depression, prediabetes, etc. Also, menopause can cause many fluctuations in hormones that cause havoc with emotions and bodies. How we feel physically is often reflected in how we feel about our appearance, in my opinion.
That being said, I think a short, styled hairstyle is much more attractive than a long, stringy hairstyle on a woman of any age. We all work with what we got! Some don't have the hair thickness to pull off long hair.
Hear, hear. Also longer flat stringy hair that looks like there has been no attempt to style it and the wearer just patted it down after getting out of bed is plain ugly. Which is what most current"trendy" hairstyles look like. I am 72, 5'2", 122 lbs and a tousled warm brown pixie cut and figure if someone doesn't like my style they don't have to look at it.
I think older women have finally reached a point in their lives when they do what pleases them, not what a man or other woman thinks about them. Too bad they didn't realize it sooner.
O.K., fair enough. However, allow me to change two or three words in her post. Please read the following with the changes and tell me if it sounds offensive to you:
"Here is my take, I just don't care anymore, I am completely happy taking care of myself and no longer feel the need to groom myself for fat slovenly women that don't stand a chance anyways."
(I changed "preen" to "groom", changed "men" to "women", added the missing verb "am" and added the missing period at the end). Just to be clear, that modified post is NOT how I feel personally, but I offer it as a demonstration.
Something has really struck a nerve in this thread. It's amazing that a discussion of hair styles can provoke this depth of feeling. People cannot express their preferences for, or reactions to, hairstyles without being pilloried? Somebody even wrote the phrase "hair Nazis", but that appeared in another thread referring back to this one.
She just called out the subtext in the OP - that women should be questioned if they don't cut their hair in a way one old man prefers. To imply this is universally unattractive is virtually the same as the poster above calling men fat and slovenly... "hit a nerve much"?
I'm in a leadership position and try to set a good example, clean shaved, clean clothes, nothing worn, but not expensive either....
And if you read my OP, you'd see I wasn't condemning anyone. I was just wondering, why some people change their look so significantly at some point when they get old. I've never seen this with men, but some women yes. I just find it interesting and wondered outloud, Why?
augiedogie,
I think the underlying tone of the thread title "Women with men's haircuts in your senior years?" and this statement " IMHO, it certainly doesn't make them more attractive. Yet I see women who do this who obviously do other things and spend money to make themselves look better, but then cut their hair mostly off" sounds judgmental, patronizing and anachronistic to many women including myself!
I also quoted your statement about being in a leadership position and try to set a good example. I don't know the reason why you started the thread. The amateur psychologist in me had to wonder whether your work role had somehow conditioned you to the mindset that 'you know what is best for others' ;-)
