Yes, I did just file at age 69. The only issues moving forward are related to the unknowns of health, pension and SS solvency. We have a large portfolio and are able to contribute significant monthly amounts to our non retirement investment accounts. RMDs will be reinvested minus the tax hit. We have supplemental health care provided by our former employer. Again wife and I each have our own pensions with spousal benefits, portfolios and SS benefits. We have affordable LTCi with great benefits (got a long time ago.

Why is it the correct decision? What more could I want at age almost 70? I would be disingenuous if said anything less. It worked out exactly as expected fifteen years or more ago. I could go on. I also collected spousal at age 66. As far as living to 100 barring the unforeseen we just keep getting wealthier over the long term. With significant continuing investing even in a market down turn we are buying new at a lower price. Because of pensions and SS we are able to be about 70% equities which gives us a hoped for higher ROI over the next decade plus. At that point barring a change we will re-evaluate for the next decade which now involves a CCRC.

Not back patting just responding folks.

You and your wife definitely did very well. Two pensions are to be envied for. I was kidding about live till 100 but a lot of people who themselves thought they would be gone at age 60s are still alive today. They are my brother's MIL and FIL. All coherent, only one is using cane. The other one has some minor problem but still walking though.

Funny thing is our plan was planned out to age 94. We are now looking at age 100 or thirty more years. Our planning was made easier with annual statements of future benefits from our pension and SS. Investments were the wild card and the Great Recession could have been devastating. How ever the quick recovery in markets were a plus. FireCalc was very helpful.
