People have been trying to change it for years. I doubt it will happen. If someone has 30 years in a pension plan it’s probably fair to have WEP. But people that spent half their career in a SS job and half not end up being severely penalized.
That is a understatement. They are TOTALLY penalized.
Has anyone gotten their notice about what their new amount will be once they take the Medicare out? I don't remember when that comes. We haven't received ours yet.
The Social Security 'Average' Check provides very little useful information. Everybody's situation is different. If you started collecting SS early, you're getting a much smaller amount. That 5.9% of the $1500 'Average' check has no bearing on the actual increase to my FRA check, which will bring us a nice raise. The monthly increase more than makes up for the $20 Part B increase.
CSRS and IRMAA Retirees are in an entirely different category in this kind of discussion.
I read it's close to $1500 a month. Probably $1550 or so in 2022 due to the COLA increase.
Is this $1550 already reflecting the Part B auto deduction?
Averages mean little when comes to SS check - these checks go to more than just retirees - most primary SS retirees get more than the average. SS goes to the disabled, spouses and minor children of retirees - I believe the $1500 is average with these groups included.
The average single retiree, I believe, was getting closer to $1600/mo and average retiree couple was getting closer to $2600/mo from SS. These numbers are before the Medicare deductions.

Makes sense
Average single is receiving $1450 a month and the average couple $2300 (after part b's deducted).
I don't know how a single person can get by on $1450 a month so I guess it's lucky it's an average and not the most common amt

Nobody collects the average. Some will get more, some will get less.
