My ex-wife used to do it, now it's just me and I only go when I need to. My grocery bill is a fraction of what it used to be because I never ate half the crap she bought, not to mention what I save in non-food products. I can afford to eat out more often based on what I save every month from her doing the shopping.

We order and pick up groceries 99% of the time. If we need something that I forgot to order, my husband normally goes to get it. I usually text a picture that has the aisle number of what I need. That eliminates a phone call once he gets to the store.

Same here, except it's the cats with me. Besides, if they did drive, they would just come home with a carload of Fancy Feast anyway.

TBH, I've always preferred grocery shopping by myself. My first husband liked to go up and down every single aisle at the Giant Food store, which drove me bananas. I was there to get the food and get out - I'm not a person who shops for entertainment, lol. My late husband couldn't be trusted to shop even with a list. Fr example, if I sent him to the store with a request to get the makings for biscuits and gravy, he would bring home store-made raisin biscuits and beef gravy in a jar. He thought they tasted fine together.

We always shop together, in fact do almost everything together. We didn’t order groceries online for just this reason, too expensive and I’d rather see the meat and produce.

Who does the grocery shopping in retirement?

Whoever it is that selects my groceries. I order online and pick them up.

I always do it. My wife hates grocery shopping and I enjoy it, I know it sounds crazy. Something about the challenge of doing it efficiently, finding the best price and so on.

Pre-COVID we used to go together. Go out to lunch (took turns picking where) and then grocery shopping at Food Lion. Made for a nice little jaunt.

That all changed to ordering online at Kroger and I do curbside pickup in the morning and bring back breakfast from Hardees. We both have input as to what we order as we share the cooking. When thing calm down virus wise around here, we will probably go back to our normal shopping. I will say that doing the curbside has been quick and easy and I have had no problems at all with the selection of things like produce or meat.

Will all the hand wringing lately about empty store shelves, we have been getting just about everything we order, though now and then we will get a substitution.

It is fun to alternate between Kroger, Publix, Wal Mart, Trader Joe's Sprouts. Dropping Save a Lot from the list. Fun to see how the different stores do carry different merchandise.

With Covid an excuse to get out of the house. Walking up & down most of the aisles provides exercise.

Suspect some of the current bare shelves come from holiday shutdowns? How many used to take a week off between the holidays?

How many forget with a holiday on Saturday the observed day could be Friday for a shortened work week?
