I cannot believe the prices that greet me now when I look at a fast food menu. Average cost of bowls like a Yoshinoya plain beef - which is just a large bed of rice and some beef and a few pieces of vegetable on top - and Panda Express bowl which again is just a large bed of noodles or rice with a few pieces of chicken and vegetables on top is now over $10. Big Macs are still a steal at $6. What sort of a bill would a family of four face if they were buying dinner (hamburger, fries, drink and dessert)? Fast foods used to be an affordable alternative to the high price of grocery store foods and a way to grab a quick meal for the family without a parent having to spend an hour in the kitchen preparing meals for everybody after a 12 hour shift at work. What are some prices you are seeing in fast food joints?

I think Chipoltie burretos are a good deal at $9.75. You can ask for extra rice and beans, no additional cost and it's a big burreto.

Chipotle burrito bowl $9.80. This is probably the best deal as it isn't built on top of a large lump of carbohydrate-rich rice. But again I ask, if two parents were taking their two kids out to have dinner, just four bowls would be over $40. And that's one meal! Obviously only well-paying parents could afford for their family to eat like this. Any other members being gobsmacked by shocking high prices? What fast foods joints and what kinds of prices?

I got a bacon egg cheese biscuit hash brown and medium coffee ala McD the other day. Total $8.10.
I eat out maybe once a month or 6 weeks. I'd rather cook and eat at home. I know who's handled it.

Inflation is reported to be hovering around 10%. Food flation around 12%. There is a labor shortage and lower wage earners were the first to get significant raises in pay to entice them to work during the Great Resignation.

Soaring prices for restaurants of all kinds should not be surprising. Inflation just sucks.
