You guys know you can live on cruise ships, right? There's one now taking people for three years. I'm too clumsy to be on a cruise ship. I'd fall over the railing.

My mom was running up and down steep stairs when she was 92. I always thought we'd end up in a nursing home together, since I'm just basically falling apart in m 60s. But we both knew that would end with one or the other having a pillow over their face.

Seriously, though, I realized one day you don't have to fall or live alone to have an accident or die. I was behind a van making a left turn (both of us stopped, guy in front waiting for oncoming traffic to pass). I heard tires squealing and then saw some nut swerving around me to the right, between our cars and the white poles (the shoulder is about 3' wide), doing about 60. I bet he never saw us until he was right behind us and I know my brake lights are working.

I could've been rear ended at 60mph and I never saw him coming. So although I'm as careful at home as I can be, I don't really sweat the small stuff too much. Anything can get ya, so enjoy life and carry on!

Unless you're 7 ft tall and top heavy, or standing on a chair or table, it's pretty much impossible to FALL over the railing of a cruise ship. It's almost 4 foot high. You can jump or be pushed, but all these people falling off a cruise ship were pushed, jumped, or fell doing something ignorant like standing on a chair next to a railing. But you're right, we could all get hit by a bus tomorrow.

You haven't seen me at my most graceful. LOLOLOL I've tripped on a perfectly flat sidewalk with nothing in my way.

Also, I know I'm annoying, so it wouldn't be impossible that someone would push me over. Eventually. There's a lot of people on CD who would volunteer for that. LMAO

Im learning. I will definitely need to be more mindful of my situation now. No falls this time. But yesterday afternoon they were rerouting a gas line on the main road next to my property. Well somebody broke it and they chased us all out due to the gas leak. Said it would only be a couple of hours so I took my Tab A and went to the Burger King to sit in their lot. Six hours later I got the all clear and went home. If I had known it would take that long I would have went to a hotel but they kept saying just another hour. After I got home I located the closest hotel with reasonable rates. Im prepared for the next time.

Im okay. I have big bruise on my knee and a "scratch" from my hairline to the end of my nose. As I lay there I couldnt help but wonder just how long it would take for someone to find me before a possum or a racoon ate me.
Get and IPhone and an Apple Watch with fall detection and cellular.

Sometimes it's little annoying things. I was mowing just after Dad (94), he mows about 5, I mow about 1 acre. Well it would stop, start, etc,. Well I had to go get Dad. He towed it with his tractor to his shop and we pulled the seat down and he found a loose wire. I said what if you weren't here, what if Steve (my brother) wasn't here, I'd have to call the mower place and have it fixed for a stupid loose wire.

I don't see myself quit mowing for several years, I'll be 71 tomorrow. Mowing is the easiest thing for Dad. Mowing is easy for me too.

Things will be quite different when Dad is not here.

Any public library near you? It might be a more comfortable place to wait than in a parking lot if you ever are ousted from your home again and only expect to be away for 2-3 hours.

I also have a suggestion. Some years ago, after an emergency hospital stay, I created a permanent “hospital bag”, a duffel bag of things I wanted to have with me if I suddenly had to go to hospital again. It was a good idea. A month later I had to call an ambulance and the paramedic just had to pick up the bag. This past spring I needed that same bag again. I just dusted it off, added some fresh toothpaste and slipped in my iPad.

If fire ever broke out in my home and there was time, I’d grab that bag, a jacket, my purse and my iPad and get out. I’d also put that bag in the trunk of my car if I was ever told to evacuate my home and the time of return was uncertain.

In ham radio, those are called "go kits". They're good for hurricane/disaster preparedness too. A kit containing essential supplies you can have on hand, and grab in a hurry if you need to get out.

Very good advice. Thanks!
