Paying online is ok, but autopay is a mistake for utilities like water, gas or electricity. It is good to review a bill each month that forces you to see the usage before you pay it. With autopay you may not realize you have a water leak (for example) for months.
I try to autopay everything, including utilities. That doesn't mean that I don't look at the bills. And I get email notifications several days before the payment processes, so I see the amounts before my account is charged.
I pay all my portion of the bills online, no paper copy. My husband likes his portion in paper, and he still writes checks and puts them in the mail.
If something happens to me, my daughter has all my account names, numbers, and abbreviated passwords. I update her a few times a year in an encrypted, locked Word document.

I’ve had Informed Delivery for more than five years. Some things show up in our mailbox a few days later, or maybe a neighbor brings it over because it showed up in their box. Occasionally, a piece of mail scheduled for delivery never shows up…
