It is not relevant to the OP to talk about the Restricted Application process people are referring to here. Her husband's benefit is higher and always will be.
OP, as a surviving spouse and based on the fact you are saying you are "at the age where they are waiting to die" you will receive 100% of the amount that your husband is receiving (whether they technically pay you your amount based on your record and then add the amount of his benefit that then equals his 100% benefit is an irrelevant technical matter because all you need to know really is that you will receive 100% of his full benefit).
I called Social Security with different questions. I do not remember how long I waited. But, I just put the phone on speaker phone while I am doing other things. I am in Oregon, but, I got a Social Security representative who was in New Jersey who seemed to know what she was talking about.
