You're doing great!! Looks like you're getting rid of furniture too in the spring?

About the 5 things, I meant--what are 5 things we KNOW we should let go of and can't, and could use a push from others?

PS: FYI all, I just started a new thread in the retirement forum:

Sell now or wait?

I don't think anyone (or at least anyone on this board), has regretted getting rid of stuff. Everyone says its a liberating feeling.

I don't miss anything I got rid of. Oh, I did make a few mistakes, like we sold all our vacumn cleaners at a garage sale, oops, had nothing to vacumn one last time before moving. Ok, not to worry, found a nice one at Walmart for $19, a dirt devil, works better than the old one, anyways, and we left it behind for clean ups while we have it listed for sale/lease.

If you make a goof, there's always Walmart, that's where that crap came from in the first place. For things of sentimental value, well, think long and hard, then rationalize you're giving it a new home, let someone else enjoy it.

The only thing I regret getting rid of is my money! To #ell with the rest of the junk!

Yes, I am finally going to part with one of my favorite things (if I get the right price) - a queen Verdegris iron bed frame that I used in the guest room in this house. Paid a king's ransom for it and it is very cool & unique but it is solid iron and weighs a ton. The only way to get it to the upstairs was through the patio door off my BR balcony. Those guys almost got hernias over that. I want 2 twin beds in the guest room at the next house.

I get real anxious over selling things like this because it will mean having strangers in the house - not cool. I have a friend that has a pitbull - he's a pussycat, but no one will know that so I'm going to borrow him when necessary. There are so many creeps these days.

I have also gotten rid of a kitchen table, a entertainment center, some chairs and other things. Each time I fretted about doing it and each time I felt a sense of relief when they were gone. I just donated these things - long before I thought I'd have a garage sale.

I have been slowly weeding through for 5 years or so and once things are gone I feel lighter.

It's funny you mention not missing anything you got rid of. I have at least two weeks more before I move and miss my washing machine. I didn't expect it to sell one hour after I listed it on craigslist. A couple of hours later, I was watching it go out the door. I figured I'd have time to do a few more loads. But, since people wanted it right away, I didn't want to shoot myself in the foot and pass on the chance to sell then and there. Good thing I have linens I didn't want to take with me, so no need to wash those as I used them these last few weeks. I have been throwing lots unmentionables away since I had way more than I needed anyway. But still it's a pain in the neck repeatedly hand washing those few pieces of clothing that I've not packed away.

No serious regrets though. It's a load (no pun intended) I won't have to worry about getting rid of when the time comes for me to shut the door behind me on this residence.

Even on the sentimental items, I'm finding it's getting much easier to let go of much of those items; especially since half the time, out of sight out of mind anyway. It's like when you start picking through stuff you start oh can't let go of that, yeah right, you forgot you even had it. So after mornining it for a few seconds/minutes....sometimes a day (there's always that one thing), I dump it now. Then I sing a song. It feels good.

Happy Unloading!
