We are moving BACK to Newport RI for War College again in the Fall. My 2 kids went to Underwood when they were little. Lower grades were fine. Need advice on HIGH SCHOOL and Middle School now. Would I be sacrificing my kids education to live in Newport again or should I go to Portsmouth. Are tolls still a pain for Jamestown? Also, any advice for anyone knowing about PeeWee Travel Hockey...any better organizations? We are checking hockey in Cranston, Newport, and Fall River. Anyone know anything about High School softball. Both kids are athletic. Tough move for only 1 year...I remember it's even tougher for the friends they leave behind. Thanks so much!

Fall River public schools- stay away from. How old are your kids?
I would recommend Portsmouth if I were you

Daughter will be in High School (9th) and my son is in Middle School (6th). We wouldn't live in Fall River, but we would look at their hockey. I have heard Portsmouth over Newport schools. We expect to move to D.C. afterwards, so we really need to not fall too far behind in education. They are both good students and into sports.
I was just hoping that Newport had made some strides in their school system since we left over 5 yrs ago. Maybe that's just wishful thinking...

Check out greatschools.org for ratings. Not too many responders on this board who know the Newport area.

I lived in Newport all total 25 years.

Go to Portsmouth!! Nothing has changed with Newport schools.

The one year duty goes by in a flash.... though I wouldn't be looking forward to DC at all. IJust don't care for the area.. traffic, cost of living, etc.

Welcome back!

I know some smart kids who went on to good things after graduating Rogers High School.
