Just moved here, and realized there is ZERO PNC banks in rhode island. I have a CHase, PNC, and citibank and none of them are here. What's the deal with that? Anyone recommend a good bank to change to..?
Just realized I titled my thread incorrectly. Meant banks in RI sorry!
I still have an account at Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) and have received great customer service from their bankers. In the last year it was also named the top lender to small businesses in the state which I appreciate as well. You might want to check it out.
At the other end of the spectrum, I personally would not recommend Citizens Bank.
Agreed with the previous poster - Citizens Bank is everywhere in RI, but they are terrible. They seem to take any opportunity to rip off their customers. Stay away!
If you move often, there are banks without bricks & mortar locations that will reimburse you for all ATM fees, so you can just go to any ATM that is near you. Deposits can be done through an app on your phone.
But if you want to be supportive of a local bank, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that!, BankRI and Pawtucket Credit Union are good choices. If you want a bigger national bank, BofA has a strong presence here. (But personally, I'm not a fan.)
Use an online bank like ally. You'll get better rates. Deposit checks via mobile. Only thing you can't do is deposit cash so unless you deal with cash I'd recommend an online bank
Ally on their money market gives .85% vs BOA .03%-.10% on their platinum money market.
Seems like you pay for the privlage of a branch with terrible rates which is why I dumped traditional banks. Amex and fidelity both offer online only accounts too but no experience with either beyond credit cards.
Wow, lot of Citizens hatred here. I've never had a problem with them, and I like their mobile app which now has the check deposit feature.
There are a lot of good credit unions in RI as well as smaller banks like Centerville, but they're more regional and may not be a good idea if you need to make a lot of ATM withdrawals.
I'll second Washington Trust, and also use Santander and TD Bank with no complaints. What part of RI are you moving to?
