I however would think the better schools in Cranston are for the most in western Cranston which is not where Edgewood is located.

Yes, the better rated schools in Cranston are in Western Cranston, But when any Cranston schools are compared to any Pawtucket, most in even East Cranston are better.

I don't put a lot of stock in online ratings, but Varieur school in Oak Hill has better GreatSchools! ratings than Edgewood Highland. What I do trust are the families I know who send their kids to Varieur and the knowledge that parents are really involved. Edgewood Highland may be the same or better, but you're not at any disadvantage in Oak Hill.

I certainly stand corrected if the information is objective and not anecdotal. Involved parents are always a good thing. However, sometimes involved parents make the best of school circumstances they cannot exit -
for a variety of reasons. Their school reviews aren't always the best source. Quantifiable/objective/comparative measures may or may not be more accurate.

If you plan to rent for 1-3 years in Oakhill, Pawtucket schools should not be an issue. The local Varieur Elementary is a good school. The Pawtucket schools for later years for that area are however an issue. Slater Middle School and Shea High School are not high performing. It would appear however that with your oldest at six, you don't have to worry about that stage for several years.

Right, even Cranston East is better than Shea.

Is this exclusive to Barrington or most affluent towns?

I live in similarly affluent East Greenwich and have a 7-year-old, and I can tell you that a pretty large majority of moms here work.

It's the burden of most affluent coastal towns in RI. The parents are likely educated and value education. Often one high income spouse works, giving the other spouse plenty of time to properly attend to the children's education. This isn't necessarily a bad thing for parents who both work. That the other parents in town value a good educational environment & high performing schools is probably the most important issue.

I would stay away from Providence because of the school system. North Providence is diverse and provides a nice hometown feel. Lincoln is centrally located and also has a great school system.
