Stillwater Antiques / Antiques Alley in Greenville, RI, no longer accepts cash in payment for purchases.
There are signs posted inside the building indicating this.

The owner stated that refusal of cash as payment is a mandate of the RI Dept. of Business Regulation, as directed by Stefan Pryor.

Has anyone else encountered a RI merchant who is refusing cash?

According to this article she stated that cash is accepted. I think that store owner heard incorrectly.

This article says the opposite, cash must be accepted. By Chloe on Thayer Street didn’t accept cash when they opened; I don’t know if that has changed or if they have been able to get away with flouting the law.

As a Rhode Island retail business owner, I can assure you there isn't a NO CASH mandate or reg from the state's DBR. There must be some confusion. However, a business is fully within it's right to determine how & what payments are accepted.
