Rhode Island's lack of a vibrant middle class is one of it distinguishing characteristics. High taxes and limited economic opportunity simply aren't ingredients in the recipe.

It seems to me that the majority of RI is middle class.

Are you a "social" liberal? It doesn't sound like you're an "economic" liberal. Many Rhode Island conservatives tell us that the powerful public employees unions run our state (into the ground).

Your political views seem complex. Complicated further here by your profound distaste for almost everything Rhode Island. As long as you're not the type who is "liberal" who is liberal with everything which directly effects them fiscally & personally, but actually "conservative" with all that affects or may benefit others. A conundrum which seems to be common with many Rhode Island democrats.

Nevertheless, that you identify as a liberal is interesting. But, what do I know? We can call ourselves anything we please. I am probably considered very conservative by habit & mores, but absolutely Liberal/Progressive in every other which way politically.

Hyperbole.

All liberals are like that now! Haven't you been paying attention? OK, not all, most.

Rhode Island is still a fantastic place in many ways. (And this November warmth is a nice bonus. Combined with the foliage, wow!)

You ever been to California, Washington, Oregon, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, or say......wait for it......Massachusetts?

And yes, their Republican Governor basically passes for a "Liberal" these days.

Plus the drivers? I was up there today, and they are worse than here! We don't call em M*******s for nothing.

In all seriousness, I am sure you're hitched. Enjoy your current spouse, let go of the hate toward the broad that once broke your heart haha

I'd call him a Disaffected Liberal. There are obviously a lot more out there than you previously thought!

So "conservatives" tell you that unions are the problem. The same folks who would like nothing better than to gut Social Security and Medicare. The same folks who tell you that raising the minimum wage is a bad idea. The same folks trying to repeal ObamaCare. And you believe them. Yep, you're a Rhode Island "Liberal".

Liberals in more prosperous areas are night and day different than their Rhode Island counterparts.

Have you not seen what is going on in the major cities in those states?

It makes Providence look like Disneyland.

That's not what comes to mind when I think of a Rhode Island "Liberal".
