I'm looking into section 8 apartments in that state and Providence doesn't necessarily look realistic for my situation but I'm thinking some of the other cities/towns may be. It'll be (hopefully) a long time before I move in that I'm taking care of my mom until she dies. I live on ssi and will probably live in an elderly or disabled apt. as the case may be. It's very easy to tell I'm glbt because I'm not on hormones so I look like a butch lesbian so people will at least know I'm lesbian if not that I'm FtM. I'm very private so I'm not one to really bring it up in every sentence or anything. There's almost 40 cities/towns for Rhode Island to go through. I'd be interested in maybe cheaper places as far as cost of living and safe as well. I've looked at some of the areas of some of these apts. and some aren't so safe, some are but some aren't.
^true but in general the friendlier they are to one the friendlier they are to the other, plus most people won't see me as male at first they'll see me as butch thus the question
RI in generally has a very "live and let live" approach to things. I wouldn't say any glbt unsafe, though there are of course some unsafe areas, but that applies to everyone.
Don't mean to be discouraging but I think your chance of getting section 8 is extremely slim in RI. There is no housing surplus here and rents are high. Check on Craigslist "housing wanted" for the numbers of people looking for section 8- waiting lists are years long.
ok that's honest it's not the only thing i'm thinking of i'm also thinking of possibly looking for someone needing a roommate etc. i just like to research things first
