Check out the murder rate in Chicago at the moment. (Not sheer numbers, the rate.)

Sadly, Providence is practically a relative success story in terms of a (somewhat) sizeable city being run by a "Progressive".

And I am sure we would agree it is anything but....

While it's probably not hard to find a better run city than Providence, some are undeniably worse.

Many in NYC for example, would gladly trade that disaster for Elorza's "ineptness".

At the very least, Magaziner seems the pragmatic sort and somewhat competent. That's probably as much as you folks can realistically hope for.

Who would be your example of a Governor that is hitting it out of the park right now?

There are a few, but Rhode Island is far from alone in terms of the mediocrity that pervades the Nation at the moment.

And as you've already correctly assessed, it gets much worse...

Let me take a stab at it: DeSantis? Abbott? Now there are two president wannabe governors really "hitting it out of the park".

I will say there is an outside chance Alan Fung resurrects to run again for Governor. He would make a very good captain at the helm of the Ocean State.

And I suspect, despite the GA Democratic Super Majority, he would be able to get along with Shekarchi/Ruggiero. After all, they're not that much of a departure from Mattiello really. (Drives "Progressives" nuts, that does.)

And if he does run, don't doubt his chances. I suspect the Primary between moderate McKee/technocrat Magaziner/and Lefty Gorbea could get pretty competitive.

I mean, break the base apart competitive...and even another Joe Trillo trick couldn't mess that up for Fung.

On the other hand, he may not run at all.

In which case I'll either be voting for McKee or whoever the Republicans nominate. But I don't see any of them being as formidable as Fung. Not in this state.

Allan Fung would be a far better choice than any of the putative Democratic candidates. It's far too much to hope for though for an electorate that put "Gina" in office. You people are really gonna have to think outside the box if you want to move the needle. More of the same will get you more of the same. Trust me when I tell you this Rhode Islanders, Mr. Fung checks all the boxes.

If as I suspect, Fung doesn't run, hopefully another formidable Republican will emerge to challenge the staus quo.

Remember, Gina really had no serious Primary challenge.

This time it's any body's race, and the three competitors are actually pretty well contrasted, with different interests backing them up.

That will make for quite the horse race, and it may get scrappier than this state has seen in a long, long time.

And that's a good thing.

Of course, I pretty much agree with all of your post.

I hate it when you do that...

I honestly can't think of any contenders aside from Fung, and he unfortunately doesn't really stand a chance (unless maybe he ran against an Elorza).
