I am trying to find an apartment that will let me take my Pit Bull with me. I've had no luck yet and no luck with finding a house for rent that allows these dogs aswell. It's really sad that this wonderful breed has gotten such a bad rep because of lowlife people. I've had her for 9 years and I am not going to give her away. There's already enough puppies and younger Pit Bulls that needs homes and a older dog wouldn't ever get a chance to get a home if I had to do that.

Where in my post did I say "People are lowlifes because they are attacked by dogs"?

Lowlifes are the people who train these dogs to fight/act mean, etc.

Have you tried King's Crossing? We lived there when we first moved to Richmond. It's in the West End, very safe and nice! They allowed large dogs and I saw several pitbulls when we lived there.
Honestly, unless the dog is pure pitbull, I'd list it on the contract as a mix. We rented with a Australian Shepherd mix and they never asked to see our dog. We just paid the pet deposit.
Honestly, if I had to rent again, I'd probably go back there. It's right off Patterson, not far from Pump Rd.

Try craigslist. Individual landlords are more likely to be flexible. Doesn't mean it's going to be easy - you are going to be a last choice renter, but if its between you and the place being empty someone will eventually take you, provided your employment credit etc are good.

If not, you are looking at the edge of the hood.

^^ They're right! Also don't just look at apartments. Look at the houses for rent...My brother & his wife rented a house in Petersburg & they had 3 dogs, 2 of which were Pitbull. Of course I'm NOT recommending the Petersburg area by any means, lol, however I'm sure you'll find something similar in another area.

Good luck from fellow Pitbull owner :-D

Try this website on the Richmond SPCA that lists pet friendly apartments.

You may want to contact Ring Dog Rescue, a Richmond based PitBull rescue. Perhaps they have some insight on this question.

The OP is right. It seems that there is an element of society - that cuts across all races and economic classes- attracted to certain breeds of dogs to show how big, bad and powerful they are. The dogs are a statement of the owner's personality. Go back 40 years and it was Dobermans. Then it became Rotties. Now it's Pitbulls. I'm sure other "bad" breeds have had this distinction.

Thank you for loving & caring for your PitBull. I foster for my local humane society. We need more owners who understand that a dog is a lifetime experience and not something to be discarded when circumstances change. The excuses I have heard for owner turn-ins borders on the ludicrous.

Default Might be able to help

I am the director of property management for a downtown company. I might be able to help you. When are you looking to move and what price range are you looking in? Lastly, how big of a place?

Dominion DOES have breed restrictions, I am also looking for a pit bull friendly place to live. Those people are just lying to the landlord, something I'm not willing to do.

Malvern Manor has NO breed restrictions! It's off Cary St. Summit Pointe in Petersburg doesn't have restrictions either but it's not in a good part of town, from what I understand.
