Hey people. I was looking into renting either in Short Pump, or another area of Henrico around the intersection of I-295 and I-95. I was wondering which commute into the city is worse or are they basically the same? Also, is the area around I-295/I-95 any fun in terms of shopping, amenities etc? Thanks.

Short Pump has a more high end reputation with better schools (which of course you pay for). I live in Short Pump and commute to the city. It takes me 25-30 minutes to get in (20 miles) at 7:30 and 30-35 out (5:30-6ish). The problem for me is getting out of the city (I either hit traffic getting on to 95 on 14th St. or on 195) and rarely hit traffic once I'm on 64 West. I do have the luxury of taking 64 to 295 and avoiding Broad St. which is congested around 6PM.

Both areas are convenient. Short Pump shopping caters more to the upper-middle class IMO. The mall at Virginia Center Commons is a bit of a dump (has gone down hill recently). Depends on whether you care about that stuff--I do but I know some don't. Your money goes a lot farther out there but there's a reason for that.

About the same either way, Anything and everything is 10ft away in Short Pump, It's also not that expensive (depending on where your coming from).

Not sure if you are referencing my post, but you are right--whether or not it is expensive is relative. That said, my point was there is a premium on short pump estate relative to the other area the op referenced because of convenience and much better school assignments.
