Hi,
I will be moving to Richmond in a couple of weeks for work. Found myself a nice 1BR apartment when i was there last week. Now i need to get it furnished. I am fresh out of college and have no furniture to speak of. Looking for some ideas on where i could buy decent used / 2nd hand furniture. just some basic stuff a sofa, TV stand, dining table, lamps etc..

Thanks,

Craigslist is always a good arena---then try Diversity Thrift and Consignment Connection.

thanks guy, i was thinking of craigslist but i am more inclined to get the stuff all at one place and hire a truck to move it. Diversity thrift and consignment connections look like what i am looking for....

Ikea in Woodbridge (Northern Virginia) has new, trendy, cool furniture for cheap and they will deliver it all for a fixed price of somewhere around $80 - $100. Not a bad deal for a new graduate imho. Best of luck with the move.

Wal-Mart has a surprising amount of furniture you can purchase online and have it shipped free to a nearby Wal-Mart. There are enough customer reviews that you can get an idea of the quality and whether the piece would work for you.

The local Goodwill Store and Salvation Army Store. I have brought several quality furniture/household (some like new) items at the Goodwill over the years. If you do not have the means to transport it - there is the $19.85 truck rental (uhaul etc.)
