We recently moved to the area and my son will be having his 8th birthday soon. I live in Short Pump and am wondering if anyone has ideas about a party place. I can't pay $200 for a party with 5 kids and I'm having a bit of trouble thinking outside the box. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What about taking the five to Laser Tag at Skate Nation and then Sweet Frog (or are there any good movies playing)? What does he like to do? There's a cool rock climbing wall at the Tuckahoe Y, but I'm almost certain that parties there are at least $200.

I have yet to figure out how to keep an out-of-the-house party under $200. The worst are Pump it Up which are great parties, but end up costing almost $400 by the time you buy cake and pizza. I'd much rather put some money in a college fund.

What about bowling? No idea what that costs, but would be great for 8 year olds. I am having my kids at Kangaroo Jacs and it is $240 for 24 kids and that includes pizza. (Getting cake from Costco) I would normally never pay that, but since it is for two kids and that many friends, I didn't think it was bad.

Oh, if your child likes animals, I believe the Richmond SPCA does b-day parties too!
