I kind of don't agree with you on the old windows archguy, but sort of do. If the windows are in good condition, its one thing. But if not, I'd rather have a pella architect series or equivalent, and aesthetically its a wash. Now cheap viny replacement windows, which approximately 100% of Richmond actually puts in, are garbage no doubt. Probably a discussion for JLC or Fine Homebuilding or the like, though.

True ... You can buy gorgeous replacement windows that fit your home's character. It's all a matter of having the taste and budget to put the right ones in, lol!! I still figure that my old windows have lasted 60-some years and replacements aren't going to hold up as well ... But oh, to be able to open and close with ease and tilt in for cleaning! ��

Absolutely! Having lived in an old house I am very jealous of friends and family who have the ease of a modern house....BUT.......I am still drawn to old draughty places. If I have old windows which cannot be restored to their former glory, I would blow quite a lot of money for the right replacement in keeping with the original.
