You know as much or more than I do, but I crossed those off of my list. I'm not entirely stuck on ratings, but being new to the area I am trying to stick with pretty highly rated schools in Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover. We've actually put off our move date for awhile... my contract doesn't begin for awhile so we have some freedom to do that, thank goodness. I don't even want to think about interest rates... >:-(

What did you hear about those schools?

On greatschools - Springfield is a 9, Ive heard Glen Allen High is actually the newest and pretty good. I have no information about Holman.

I do have some flexibility in my move, however, fortunately (or unfortunately) my current home looks like it might sell much faster than I thought, so I'll have to have somewhere to go.

Springfield is good. Holman is very good. Glen Allen will never be Deep Run/Godwin. The demographics are slightly different (Deep Run/Godwin skew more affluent/more highly educated and I highly doubt that will change). I still think a smart kid could get just as good of an education at Glen Allen as at Deep Run or Godwin. Also, a lot of the top students go to the specialty centers in high school anyway so it might not matter.

Maybe I'm missing something? I'm not sure, but I looked at ratings for the top 10%ish of elementary schools in the state and Springfield was not on there. Likewise Holman and Glen Allen (although Glen Allen's age might just mean it's not ranked). I also looked at which schools have gotten Governor's awards the past few years.

Holman is too new. Twin Hickory feeds into Holman. Springfield is not quite up there with Twin Hickory, Nuckols Farm, Shady Grove, etc., but it is still considered an excellent elementary school.

ETA: Schooldigger.com ranks Springfield 56/1060.

Just a note, there is a redistricting underway. Usually these just mean instead of going to good school A, the kids will go to good school B.

Redistricting already happened. Right now we're set for several years.

If you're in the Far West End and all of the schools are uniformly excellent, reassignments shouldn't matter that much (although people still get upset).

We sold our house very quickly - so now the pressure is on. I know well find a place to live, but the preschool thing is now the biggest struggle. Every preschool is wait listed that we've talked to. We have a meeting with Gingerbread Cottage Preschool when we are visiting this weekend to look at houses. Anyone with any experience with that particular preschool that could give us advice.

Thanks again for all the help in this thread!
