Rainbow Station to me is more of a daycare. They may have a separate preschool, but it seems more geared toward full day care of small children and after school care of older children.

I've heard good things about the Gingerbread Cottage Preschool on Pouncey Tract (isn't there more than one location?). We loved Mt. Vernon. You really need to think about what you're looking for in a preschool. I wanted a very social preschool--not one where the children would be given a lot of worksheets/desk work. Honestly kindergarten is much more about learning to get along than anything academic. My approach was if my kids could write their letters and numbers, know their colors, and go into kindergarten able to read (which I taught them), then they'd be set.

Gayton Baptist on the South Side of Broad St. (pretty close to the mall) has a preschool too. Also, Derbyshire Baptist came highly recommended when we moved from NC.

We did one year at the Shady Grove Y. It's a good program but wasn't a great fit for my son.

Thanks so much! We finally got down to Glen Allen and we are going to go ahead with Gingerbread on Pouncey Tract (there are a couple - this is the only one with an opening).

We were a bit unsuccessful in finding somewhere to live, but we did fall in love with the Grey Oaks community so we are going to continue looking in there.
