Unfortunately I can't share the perspective to your enthusiasm.

It seems some people are concerned that people feel that SOME of the native Richmond citizens appear to be stand offish and not welcoming to new comers, but it also seems that there are lots of new comers who probably have to form relationships with each other until they connect to someone who can help them enter various circles. Unfortunately when this happens it probably creates yet another subgroup of people that will be separated from the other.

What kind of activites happen in Richmond that bring various groups together. Some one mentioned on another thread that WalMart seems to do this, and it is there that you see the evidence of the diversity in the Richmond area.

Well my main problem is it does not seem like the city advertises events that bring people together. There are a few events but other events rely solely by the word of mouth. I'm guessing the center stage project will expose the music talent a lot more but I am having a hard time staying updated and finding events around town even with sites like VentureRichmond and NBC12.

There's tons of events... Style Weekly, the Times-Dispatch website, radio stations, Venture Richmond, Weekly Rant, and others all get the word out about them. One of my favorite events is the Lebanese Food and Cultural Festival.

Of course, the mother of all local events now is the Richmond Folk Festival, which brought together a diverse crowd of nearly 200,000 over 3 days last year.

On the note of what can you do/contribute to Richmond - I just received a note regarding the Leadership Metro Richmond (LMR). They're currently working on a project that will contribute to the community in some way by collecting videos, postings, artwork and photos reflecting people's completion of 2 statements: "My Richmond Is" and "My Richmond Could Be". Results will be shared with the Richmond community through a multi-media presentation. More info: myRichmond.org

Wow! I think that is a great idea for a project. Somthing like that may stimulate/inspire even more Richmond residence to share creative ideas which might not otherwise be communicated on the larger scale. It could begin to help individuals and orgnaizations with simular interests create community partnerhips. Who knows? I commend (LMR) for coming up with the idea, and hope that they get positive productive responses.
