I was wondering if Richmond gets Tornados and Hurricanes ?

If they do get Tornados what category and seriousness does the storm have ?

And how serious are the Hurricanes , if any ?

Thanks

We had a hurricane in 2003 and some parts of the area were without power/water for a few weeks. We had a newborn and no water for about a week. Lots of pine trees went down. We also had a tornado in 2003 or 2004 that I remember that did some minor damage. Both are fairly rare occurences.

tornado's aren't as common as in the Midwest,the hurricanes USUALLY die out before they hit Richmond it 90 miles inland but.......once every 10-15 years one will hit but I wouldn't let that scare me!

Usually the area gets loads of warnings in advanced for both. Most news stations usually stay on for as long as the storm poses a threat to their viewing area also.

@sls76,
The name of the 2003 hurricane was Isabel in September. We got hit HARD. Sadly, I lived in Hampton Roads at the time, so it was about 10 times worse, b-cause it was the center of the storm. We fled the area.
