in reply to you IMNEWHERE, I must say i enjoy reading your post about richmond. It's very refreshing to see someone come from awhole 'nother place and to come here and to see beauty/grit and everything inbetween on your exploration of this great city. I can sooo relate to you on your whole preception of richmond. I was born and raised in New York City to be more specific Harlem. I moved to richmond in 2003 because my father had moved out there and he wanted me to come. I was doing so bad in school in ny, I got into A LOT of trouble and my future didnt look too bright I might add.

So then I finally decided "hey let me give virginia a shot, i got nothing going on for me if i stay in ny" and then all of a sudden here I am in a new high school, new state no friends I thought i took a turn for the worse lol. Then one day a kid my age that lived next door to knocked on my door and welcomed me to the neighborhood and then thats where my life started. That would never in a million years happen where im from in ny which is why I'm so grateful to have lived in richmond. And from that day i met soooo many great friends, I did good in school did my work, graduated ON TIME, learned how to drive, enjoyed life. I became very independent at such a young age which i also enjoyed.

So yea, your right about life and what you make of it. The love I have for richmond is sooo deep, I put it above my hometown. NY is great but its too busy, everything is so fast paced, to have someone....anyone, just wave to you is such a rare sight to see. To drive in ny is to pray to God to be safe everytime you get behind the wheel. Its not like people really have to be somewhere in a hurry it almost feels like they just want to get infront of you...and they'll do whatever it takes which is sad. I'm sorry but I'll pick richmond lifestyle anyday.

We may be relocating from New England (right now Maine) this summer. At first, I thought it was not going to be the right place with some of the comments I found on here but I've grown excited after a bit more research and some helpful people.

Your post was a pleasant surprise and I absolutely loved reading it. It is just the scenario I have been envisioning in my mind and I was wondering if I was way off.

By the way... would love to know which neighborhood you decided to live.

Yes, I too love reading ImNewHere. Good job!

Like you, I was apprehensive about relocating to Richmond after reading some forum comments.

But after doing my own research and visiting twice for an extended period of time, I am truly looking forward to making Richmond our new home.

We are Richmond bound this summer from New England. We are very excited.

I thank everyone who took the time to answer my questions. This forum has been very helpful. Have a great summer everyone!
