The Roanoke Valley has done a great job of developing sustainably leaving tons of green space and going straight from urban to rural with very little suburban sprawl in between. The topography is largely responsible for that, seeing as how we've got mountains on three sides, but it's a bonus whatever the reason. The AT, Carvins Cove, the Parkway, trails & camping within city limits, the greenway and many urban parks. It's a great place to live & explore.

Having moved here from the Houston area (which has taken sprawl to an art form), I just say I am so grateful (despite South Peak lol).

Now that "development without sprawl" actually has some traction nationally, I can hardly wait to see what the next 20 years in the 'Noke will look like!!!
