"College Town is an exciting new mixed-use, close-knit district providing the Rochester community, University of Rochester and University of Rochester Medical Center students, faculty and staff a one-of-a-kind, vibrant place to live, learn, dine, shop, work and play. When College Town celebrates its grand opening in Fall of 2014, it will feature a 20,000 sq ft Constantinos Market, a two level Barnes and Noble university/community bookstore, a 136 room Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, 50,000 sq ft of new class A office space, 150 new high end apartment units, and numerous new shops and restaurants to meet every taste and style. Strategically located at the intersection of Mount Hope and Elmwood Avenue, College Town is perfectly positioned to bring Rochester’s booming higher education and medical community together with a 5 county population of over 1 million people to enjoy many new-to market retail and restaurant options, as well as family oriented and other programming for gathering and recreating."

I couldn't agree more. I used to work downtown proper and in the Westfall area and both areas are impressive.
Unlike a lot of other cities' downtowns, ours is vibrant with not only bustling government offices, but private businesses and the eateries they attract. Plus it just looks nice.
And the Collegetown project--whoa! DH and I happened to be in the area a couple of weeks ago and couldn't believe it. They're building another 2-story Barnes & Noble there, too.
Another plus is that, being a mixed-use project, it will attract people of all ages.

The growth of downtown is really incredible for sure. And I agree, they are doing a fantastic job of beautifying it. The renovations of old buildings just compliments the character of newer buildings considerably. That's one of the great gems we have in downtown. Really old majestic buildings that were never tore down.
Sounds like Seligman is doing a superb job of ripping off the taxpayers.
Collegetown is not a freebee. It is mostly borrowed money.
UR is getting a huge IBM data mining center in which IBM is footing most of the cost. Contrast that with Buffalo where NYS taxpayers are footing the cost for a similar project.

That's good info.
I just don't see the merit of having another "college town" in Rochester, the Wilmot's put their name on the monstrosity next to RIT.
