This is from a general standpoint, I'm not sure about the IT career field so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but Rochester seems to be an overall very friendly work-life-balance city. Sure there are exceptions but I think most residents would agree that compared to places like NYC/San Fran where employers expect their employees to be on call 24/7, employees in Rochester have it pretty good. I'm sure a lot depends on your field, not sure about the IT field, but most people I know have a great work-life balance here in Rochester.
I'm looking to move to Rochester with my wife and my 1 year old, and am doing research regarding jobs in IT in the area.
Hows the job scene there comparatively to other metros?
Did you find any good jobs there?
What are the companies to look for?
Also what areas have Indian communities there? Any homes that rent out as well , or any 6 month apartment rentals available?
I'm looking to move there from LI, where did you move from? What pros and cons can you state?

When I graduated in 1973 I decided to move from my home town to Rochester. Best decision ever.
Eventually I wound up working at the Lorette Wilmot Library at Nazareth College. This became the gold standard. Sadly, the subsequent 2 academic institutions I worked at did not measure up, but I believe that's more because of of the times we currently live in and not the institutions themselves.
I think Ginna Nuclear Power Plant has a great work / Life balance, there rules in place preventing anyone from working too many hours, so it's not like other companies where they work you to death with OT. I like the pay too, while I could make the same salary in places like Baltimore or DC, but the cost of livings much higher. It's not like your employer is going to say the COL is twice as much where you live, here's an extra 80k a year to even it out for you.
On the down side, I hate the winter weather, welcome to Western Snow York.
