My son lives in an apartment complex. 5 years, no issues. The carpet was not new when he moved in. Last week, while at work, the neighbor's son clogged their toilet, causing theirs and my son's toilet to overflow. My son came home from work to find all of the carpets soaking wet. Management's response was to shampoo and let carpets dry. It's been a week, and my son still can't sleep there because the smell is really bad. I worry about mold and bacterial growth underneath the carpet. Would it be out of line to insist the carpet be replaced? How long is long enough to wait for the smell to subside? Any informationfrom someone with experience is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest that he read through this http://www.thehousingcouncil.org/new...nts_Rights.pdf. Ensure that all notifications that are communicated by phone are backed up with written correspondence referencing the names and conversation you had, above all keep notes of times, person you spoke with, what was said. This is a great tool when dealing with multiple people, saying "well I spoke with ..... and they said ...." carries a lot of weight. Notify the city agency if needed.

Good Luck
