Hi everyone,

I am a Rochestarian in need of some help.

I strongly suspect that my 5 year old beautiful little boy has Asperger's. I am having trouble finding someone to connect him to for some help and guidance. I was told that there is a center at Strong Hospital where he may be able to be monitored/diagnosed, but they have a 6 month waiting list at least.

In the meantime, he is starting to show signs that are almost impossible to ignore - especially nervous tics which are starting to interfere with his social life.

I am at a loss as to where to turn or what to do. I know that there is a danger of misdiagnosis or overdiagnosis, and that Asperger's is sometimes a very subjective diagnosis - but I do think he needs help, possibly in the form of social/behavioral therapy.

Does anyone know of any counselors in the area that specialize in children with Asperger's/Autism?? Or does anyone know of any community resources that I could turn to for more information??

Thanks ahead of time!!

There are a number of web forums for Autism as well. May be a good place to start, there may be members from the area who can point you in the right direction.
