If Souix Falls just didn't have so much snow and such long winters, I might be living there. The Black Hills are awsome as. What do the other 4 states have to match that?
I kind of like Oklahoma City, but prefer Sioux Falls. Tulsa just sucks though. I am sure sombody will chime in how much they love Tulsa.
I like Lincoln as well.
I have never been to North Dakota, but I can't imagine it has anything better than South Dakota has.
I have to drive the length of Kansas every year and while it is boring and not very scenic, I studied the history and some geology and the more you know, the more you appreciate a place. I have followed the Santa Fe Trail a few times and enjoy that experience— my wife had a relative that was a mule skinner on the trail and with the army when it invaded New Mexico (where I live now) in the Mexican American War. He passed that way through Kansas several times.
In the past I’ve driven boring Interstate 80 through Nebraska on the way to California. However last summer I took US Highway 20 through Nebraska on a trip from Iowa to Yellowstone Natl Park. I was blown away by the diversified landscape and terrain and small historical towns through Nebraska … the Sandhills, Chadron and its State Park, Fort Robinson, pines and ponderosa. So many interesting places to take a break and explore. This changed my image of Nebraska completely.
South Dakota with its Black Hills is hard to beat but I vote for Nebraska in this poll.
I voted North Dakota because I lived in Fargo for a year and loved it. Cute city with friendly people. Plus I love driving and seeing farms on both sides of the road. Oh, but if Minnesota had been on the list I would have chosen them Minnesota is gorgeous. I loved their small towns and big lakes.
I'm kind of a bogus voter because I haven't been in all those states but Nebraska is one beautiful state. I love the upper Midwest, particularly Wisconsin, another stunning place.
I voted South Dakota as I live here now. I enjoy exploring the wide open spaces once you get out of Rapid City or Sioux Falls. It's nice in SD from May thru October, but winters can be bad. Winter is main reason I may not stay here in retirement. North Dakota has very similar terrain and feel, but SD is better known and more traveled due to the Black Hills and Mt Rushmore.
It also depends on your needs as what state might be your favorite. I grew up on SW side of Kansas City on KS side, and worked in Lincoln NE. For work, KS, NE and OK are probably better for jobs due to the big metro areas.
Interesting that Oklahoma with its two big metros didn't get the most votes but then it isn't the most rural state for this forum and apparently not the most scenic state. The Wichita Mountains and the Kiamichi Mountains in Oklahoma don't count for much compared to what South Dakota offers.
