I have been all over the country for the railroad, and Missouri was one of the better places I have been. I don't remember all the little towns in the summer I was there, but very nice people and very similar to my home state of Maine. I am not surprised you found a slice of heaven there.

I think these were some of the towns we worked in along side the river on the UP Line there.
Yea I lived close to Boonville until I retired and moved back here.I've lived and traveled many other places and this is just Home.
Today I had kind of a nostalgic breakfast .My Mom was always for one Loving the Finer Things in Life.She Enjoyed Good Food and Wine,Art and Travel.I believe I acquired her Gene for this.
This morning took me back to Mom with the Breakfast I fixed.Farm Fresh Eggs,Fresh Trout,Toast with Blackberry Jam and Gourmet Coffee.
Isn't it funny, HIllman? I lost my precious mama two years ago and certain foods remind me of her. Sweet tea, grits and salmon patties were some of her favorites. And one of my favorite great aunts always had the best smell in her kitchen....it always smelled like a combination of coffee, bacon and fresh cakes. Every now and then my kitchen will have a similar smell and it takes me right back to those times as a kid in Aunt Macy's kitchen. Yep.....it's nice to know there are some other country folks out there like me.
Yesterday we picked and Canned some Carrots and Green Beans out of our Garden,plus dried some Hot Peppers.
Told my wife I was going fishing today.She asked
if I thought this was wise considering how sick I've been.I told her I just can't stay cooped up in the house this is something I have to learn to live with I'm going.
Decided I needed some New Line on my Reel.I go to one Shop they are not open.Go to another Shop get New 2# Test put on,grabed couple Lures.
Went on down to the river thought its plenty early I'll miss the Aluminum Hatch.I was a bit concerned there was nobody down there considering its Saturday,wondering if the Fish were Biting.
Get below one riffle.Well do I want to use Lures or Bait? Well I just want Supper I'll go with Bait.Had some Yellow Power Bait but the Lid had came off and it was dried up.So I'll use White.Bait up cast out.Not really where I want it,Oh Heck I have a Fish on!Nice Rainbow,put it on the Stringer.Four more cast Limit of Four on my Stringer,made it back Home by 9AM.

You made me drool all over my keyboard. I would dearly love some Trout right now. I am going to have to talk hubby into digging out his pole. And then after that, maybe we he can find his fishing pole and go fishing. har har.
Lebanon, Missouri was our halfway stop point ( 750 mi ) when we moved from Akron, Ohio to Portales, New Mexico. Ate at this neat restaurant there for catfish dinner. Criss-crossed several times and always stopped there...Great people in Missouri, I could feel at home if I chose to move there.
My first time through though, it was the 2nd week in January 2007, and drove a packed box truck with all our stuff through the nastiest ice storm I have ever seen. 1 inch thick ice on everything, trees bent and snapped, power lines down = power outages galore, which means no working gas stations, really scary!!!
Took the whole day, 12 hrs to drive from St Louis to Joplin, overnight there then onto NM.
I love living in the country as well. Closest town is two miles away and it has no traffic lights. The town up the road about fifteen miles has four or five traffic lights and that is already getting too busy for me! Love the deer in the backyard, the peacocks in the pasture, and just the darkness at night. Life is good!

Rural SC...between Walterboro and Summerville is a small town called Cottageville. I live outside that small town. There are alpacas, emus and ostriches up the road ( my horse seems to think they smell funny). Our local parade at Christmas time brings rural people from all over to see more people march in the parade than the population of the town actually is. The whole line of antique firetrucks usually begins the parade...
We have two gas stations/convenience stores, one diner (sometimes) one bank and a plant nursery...a mechanic's shop and not much else. Oh the Dollar General is our "mall". I love it!
