I'm looking for a quiet, retirement foothill town--no snow, lots of sunshine--
that is not overrun with meth heads and/or Republicans, not that there is
anything wrong with meth heads and Republicans.

And I'll take my response off-air.
Thank you.

Given that 20 people have read your request, and no one has answered.....

And I'm sure you wouldn't want an answer from a *gasp* Republican.....

OP, have you done any research yourself? If so, what areas have you already ruled out?

If you're speaking Sierra Nevada foothills, no there aren't any (well, at least the Republican part). As far as "methy" I've never noticed them being much different from anywhere else.

Any of the actual towns/cities are probably your best bet. Placerville, Auburn, Grass Valley. GV especially has a decent hippie contingent. Rural areas are going to be pretty conservative, but you might find that the brand of conservatism isn't too offensive to you. You may disagree with how they vote and the tea party signs you see while driving around, but if they're libertarian leaning, maybe it won't affect you too much. You'd also be close enough to the Sac metro area to find specific groups of people you did enjoy through something like meetup.com, whether that was specifically political or not.

I think things improve a little bit in terms of meth if you're willing to go above the snow line.

Places like Marysville & Yuba City and Oroville, they all seem too Methy.
I'm sure Methy people are nice and sweet and all, but some of them certainly
seem ready to steal you blind. Their priorities seem different or something.

San Andreas looks great, but according to city-data, is very Republican.

I currently live in Rocklin and meet a lot of Roseville people daily. The very right-leaning
mindsets disturb me. It amazes me how California can be so in the Democrat camp,
yet so many people are so right-leaning on the street. Too many people seem to listen
to radio talk shows that instruct them how to think, what they SHOULD be angry about.
Or they have Fox news blaring on the TV. (My work takes me into a lot of homes.)
These people then just seem so eager to spout "their" political and social opinions, few
of which warm my heart. These same people also seem to have the fewest manners.
To think the few retirement years that I will have will see me stuck around these types--
it depresses me.

I don't like the cold, so above the snow line is out.
And did I mention I am not wealthy? So a low cost of living is important.

Thank you.

Neither are they, contrary to your caricaturization of them. That is why they came there. They were priced out of the nice coastal areas. Just a thought....

Most of Calaveras County is Republican. So What?

My voting precinct has the highest percentage of R's in the County. It also has the highest percentage of Greens.

We get along just fine.
