Looking at the latest google map satellite photo shows an empty lot on the East side of Marysville Blvd at the barricade. It looks like the residents in that area use the vacant lot to get on to Bell Ave. It looks like Raley Blvd or Dry Creek Rd are the main access roads to this portion of M.B. I seem to recall this intersection having several collisions as the people ignored the stop signs here, so the city blocked it off.

It's not unusual. There are numerous barricaded residential streets throughout the Sacto region that prevent through traffic. Here's another:

It's called traffic calming.

Here's another from the grid.

It's also quite annoying. If streets are no longer contiguous, they might as well be renamed.

Just curious, are you randomly looking for this type of thing on line, or where you actually at the corner of Marysville Blvd & Bell?

What? That is a google maps pic.

I was randomly look at maps (of NYC actually) and then started looking at the grid in Sac and was comparing things like block size and street layout. I started wandering north while looking at maps and ran into this.

Edit: Ok, I had to go back and look at it. The big Marysville Blvd. is still there--it turns into Raley Blvd after the freeway. This Marysville is just an off-shoot that goes through part of the residential area. People planning to go straight through just stay on Marysville as it becomes Raley so that cut-off part was never meant to be a through-way.

At one time it *was* a through-way, but then Raley Blvd was connected instead.
