Haha...you know..I think I would have MUCH prefered being stuck in traffic that night. But yeah....I think I did miss out on the whole Sacramento city experience. I'll be back at the end of the month though. Thinkin about staying in Roseville this time.

Roseville is yet another outer satellite city (albeit one with a small historic core) that is primarily known as Sacramento's equivalent of Orange County. It's a nice enough place to live, I suppose, but not much to visit. If you want to actually go see Sacramento, why not get a room in downtown Sacramento? The Sheraton and the Hyatt are pretty decent.

The business meeting is in Rancho Cordova...and I don't think I want to experience Sacramento rush hour at it's finest. : \

Heard they will be shutting down certain portions of the 5 this month too. I have a bad feeling this will lead to another scary adventure if I have to find a detour.

If you stay in Roseville, keep in mind that there are no freeways that run directly from Roseville to Rancho Cordova. That means you will have to either take surface streets, which are slow and traffic-packed, or take the longer way via I-80/Bus 80 to Hwy 50, through the center of downtown. Staying in downtown Sacramento would actually be a lot closer, and a lot shorter drive, rush hour or not. And if your meeting is during the day, you're moving in the opposite direction of commuter traffic, which goes west into downtown in the morning and east back to Rancho/Folsom/Orangevale in the evening.

The I-5 shutdown is limited to the "boat section" in downtown Sacramento. There are several ways to avoid it.

Here's a website with project details so you'll know what to avoid. If you're coming from the airport you'll have to deal with it one way or the other: FIX I-5 PROJECT | FixI5.com

if you stayed downtown you could just swing onto capital ave take that east and that turns into folsom blvd which takes you RIGHT thru Rancho & visa versa-Folsom blvd takes you right downtown. Its about 20-25 blocks tho so give urself plenty of time, hr-hr&half. that bypasses the highways and its pretty much a straight line. folsom does curve tho. so turn with it. i dunno...jus an idea

An hour or an hour and a half from midtown to Rancho Cordova? Even on Folsom Boulevard, that trip is maybe half an hour to 45 minutes. Probably simpler to take the freeway, although Capitol/Folsom does take you through some of the prettier Midtown/East Sac neighborhoods.
