I'm a little late in finding this, but just wanted to give you a heads-up on two things about Davis. But let me first say, I'm a huge fan of Davis and highly recommend it, but it's not for everyone.

It's an extremely liberal city. So, if you're uber-conservative, you may or may not like it there.

Secondly, it's primarily a college-town which means a whole bunch of college students. I would argue that that adds spice, life and energy to the town and is certainly a part of its charm - but not all people want to live in college towns. There are certainly lots of families there - but you'll find ten times more families in North Natomas.

Again, if it were me, I'd pick Davis - but in case any of the factors I mentioned deter you, know that North Natomas is very, very, very familiy oriented - and if you choose to live in Natomas Park, you'll have access to a very large and very nice community rec and pool area that is swarming with kids and families all year long.

As mentioned before, but worthy of mention again, stay far away from South Natomas.

Looks like I had less of a choice than I thought. We're being put up in a gated community in North Natomas. Doesn't really seem that big of a deal really, its only for 3 months.

If it becomes permanent...yah we'll be moving to davis haha

I would strongly recommend Natomas (that's why I live there :-) We used to live both in Davis and across town in Sacramento and Natomas seems to be the best. Anywhere in Sacramento you're going to watch out for the crazy drivers, so just be aware of that. There are some nice parks in Natomas and many restaurants and sightseeing opportunities along the river.

The areas of Natomas that seem to be getting bad are on Truxel/W. El Camino as you pass the Bel Air Supermarket (or the SaveMart, depending on what direction you're going). The buildings towards the I-80 freeway side still remain a good neighborhood. For safety reasons, stay the heck away from the Oak Park area.

Also, down Truxel there is the South Natomas library and community center, which has a great new park surrounding it and has some pretty decent community and family events going on regularly.

Davis, you will probably be safe, but it's not very friendly. Extremely liberal and educated and the populace is stuck up.
