hello everyone,
i'm looking for a job. Since i have no degree (still in college) the only job that i can get, asap, would be one that pays minimum wage. I thought about working at a casino for the valet parking since they are hiring. I have a clean dmv record and can drive manual transmissio, so i shouldn't have a problem getting hired. I was wondering how good the tips are and how much should i expect to make in tips. How much does the average person tip? I have to be honest and say that whenever i go to a casino, and probably loose, i usually not tip or only tip a dollar because i'm mad and in a bad mood (even though not the attendants fault).
I did some research and found out that the average people make on tips is $100-$150/day, that doesn't sound realistic since that's $3000-$4500 a month just on tips......
so what should i expect realistically? Is there another job with tips that would be better with tips? My main goal is to find a job with tips since minimum wage isn't enough to cover my expenses.

Also, how important is having a resume? I haven't made one yet and to be honest i don't want to since i have no prior experience or references (other than working in a family business all my life). Could i get hired just by talking to the manager? Is a resume required in most cases?

Thanks

There aren't any casinos in Sacramento proper, but there are a lot of valet jobs downtown. I would recommend making a resume, it's good practice and even if they just have you fill out a standard application you will have all the information handy on the resume. Being part of a family business is certainly something you should list; it gives you an opportunity to list your skills, and maybe even impress an employer that you were raised in an environment where the family valued work.

Go to the DMV and get a print out of your driving record to attach to the resume.

Contact the airport and figure out which hotels run shuttles out to the airport to pick up and drop off passengers. Generally you can expect to make from $2 to $5 dollars a passenger just for loading and unloading there bags. It will be the bigger hotels like the Red Lion and the Radison that offer this type of service. It pays well and unlike waitressing jobs, where women seem to have the edge over men in getting them, this is a job where men seem to have the edge over women.

I did it when I was in college. It was a fun job.

Dress well, cover any tattoos you have. Attach together a cover letter and resume and copy of your driving record.

I was thinking about applying at Thunder Valley casino since they are hiring (or any casino since i'm pretty sure they always need valet attendants) i know it's not in Sacramento, but close enough. I will definitely make a resume (thanks wburg for your advice on family values and work)

Thanks x15, i will look into that as well.

Does anyone know how good are the tips? That's pretty much the only reason i would consider working there since the pay is not great (also because i like cars, but not necessarily parking them).

I neighter would pay tips while going to casino, nor would use valet parking.
