relocating to the area to work at Beale AFB but I know NOTHING about the area. Will need a place to live, relatively close to the base, but close to the city too - I'm willing to make a bit of a commute if it means there might be a little more access to culture. what areas are good, but relatively cheap living? looking for somewhere adventurous but safe for a younger female - maybe a little house or apartment for me and my dog. any area ideas / commute times?

Beale is an hour and change from Sacramento. Marysville and Yuba City are the closest cities, maybe 20 minutes away. Chico is a college town about 50 miles north.

I think that your best option would be to live in Lincoln, north and east of Sacramento but well within our metro area.

Commute to Beale is easy, just a quick shot up Rt 65 and S Beale Rd. Commute should be no more than 30 minutes.

Lincoln is a great idea! But I'm not sure about their housing. I have a cute, inexpensive apartment in downtown Marysville with my dog and it's great too. Close to Beale. Close to absolutely everything I need except maybe not close enough to downtown Sacramento.
