Buying in SLC vs Park City (Alta: rental, condos, disposal)

Hello-
I currently work in Alaska 2 weeks a month, wife lives in SC, so I commute back and forth through SLC. I love the SLC area, have been hanging out here for over a decade skiing when I can.

We would like to buy a condo to use as a half way meeting point for ski/get away weekends. Seems like a good time in UT, seems to be some good deals.

We are thinking downtown SLC and maybe looking at Park City as well. SLC is obviously a good deal cheaper, and I like having our choice of ski areas within 45 mins (I like Solitude, Alta, S-bird better than Park City) and I also like the idea of having the city at our disposal for activities beyond skiing. Eating, nightlife, etc have come a long way since I first started visiting in the 90s.

We also like the idea of a more traditional ski town, a la Park City, and there are some condos there in our price range with the added benefit that we could recoup more expenses on vacation rental activity.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the better long term return on a $200k-ish property will look like? In say, 5-10 years. If SLC, what areas are a good buy right now? Thanks.
