Hello all,
My partner and I are planning on moving to Salt Lake next month and am looking at houses in the West Jordan area. Does anyone know if this is a gay-friendly area or is it heavily conservative? I just do not want to move into a place and be harassed.
Thanks for any info!

Tamara

Downtown SLC is pretty much the only place I would call "gay friendly"; although you probably won't be greeted with outright hostility in the 'burbs, you may be frustrated by neighbors who try to pretend you don't exist.

"Shunning the non-conformists" seems to be a high art in this state.

Thanks for the reply. We are very friendly and outgoing to our neighbors. We always smile and say hi. Going to have to break them in and make them like us. LOL.

Nobody is going to harass you. Avoid you? Maybe. But not harass you. Don't be afraid I'm a mormon, and one of my best friends is gay. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. There are many like minded people who share my view point.

I would say though.... if you want something more gay friendly, I'd recommend Cottonwood Heights, Sugarhouse, The Avenues, or Park City. A bit more liberal and diverse in those particular places

You will love it here though. Lots to do in the down town scene and in the Great Outdoors.

I agree about the SLC area. Downtown is probably the best it gets for gay friendly. I know you'll enjoy our Pride celebration (if that's your thing of course), it gets pretty big. Heh, I haven't even gone to Pride for the last few years, but I hear it's the place to be!
My partner and I live in Kaysville, which is one of those aforementioned 'burbs, but we love it here. We just so happen to luck out with neighbors that don't care. I hope you guys like it here overall! Lots to see and do, especially if you like outdoor activities of course.

I am gay and grew up in Ogden, I now live in the avenues area. Salt Lake Area actually has a relatively high gay population especially in the city center. I know a couple guys that live in West Jordan and they never have any problems you should be fine man. If you guys need any recommendations just let me know I've been out in SLC for about 4 years and have had relatively few problems.

Downtown would be fine. I also understand that the highest concentration of LGBT couples is in the Marmalade District. This isn't right "Downtown" but is within about a five-minute drive of Downtown. It's mostly older homes being renovated. If you're okay with that (the older homes), you really should check out that area.
