Thanks everyone for your responses. A couple of questions:

1) I am also looking into a job in Idaho Falls. I know the two areas are very different in size and what they offer. What I am wondering is how they compare in terms of housing costs? We visited IF and couldn't believe how affordable the housing was. I know SLC will have "pockets" of rich and poor (like anywhere), but in general how do the housing costs compare to Idaho Falls?

2) Can someone estimate the cost of the following in the Salt Lake area: 4-bedroom, around 2500 square foot, around 1/4 acre lot, new construction, within a 30 minute (one way) commute of downtown, in a decent neighborhood? Even if you just ballpark it...anything is helpful right now.

Thanks again!

The house you describe is exactly my house. I think the price would vary depending on locale. For a 30 min commute:

Western Salt Lake County $275k

Tooele County $250k

Southeastern (Sandy, Draper) Salt County $325k

Davis County $300k.

Just an educated guess. Try some online real estate sites to get a better idea.

Sounds like quality is consistent at least.
