Yes, I shoudn't have done it. Yes, I got caught. No, I didn't cross a redlight. It was a sign I didn't see that read, "DANGER: Pedestrians prohibited."

I know I can plead guilty and just pay the fee but I have a spotless clean record.

Would it make a difference if I go in person to talk to the judge? What should I do? What should I say?In the yellow "traffic violation" he wrote "Pedestrian cross where prohibited."All suggestions greatly appreciated.

That depends on where did this happen? Did you cross 410 or did you cross Houston Street? If it's a more dangerous place to run across the street, then the judge will not listen. It also depends on time of day and traffic.
Actually, I think I would just take the ticket and move on. It's not a felony or a charge that will affect your standing in the community.

Dang, sorry if this question doesn't make sense or is off topic, but did there seem to be any sidewalks present or perhaps lack thereof that could have prevented this violation? Because here on this lil stretch of E Bitters that I'm familiar with there is only one sidewalk for a good half mile or so, but don't seem to know about Ped signs...and it can be a pain in the a$$ to cross it, like in heavy traffic hours when peolple are cutting across from 35 to 281 or whatever...anyway, good luck..

Unsure if the judge or the law will allow deferred disposition or if you can plead no contest for a jaywalking ticket but I imagine they will.

On a scale of 1 to 10 in criminal activity, this is like a -3. I'm actually surprised that they cited you vs chewing you out - may be that they've had a rash of jaywalkers in the area, and some near-misses, so they're trying to emphasize the issue.

Personally, I'd just pay and go on - but then again, I have NO clue as to the amount of the fine. Is it significant?

I believe the fine is 162.00 as the traffic violation doesn't specifically list it. It says all other violations are 162.00. I've called the Municipal Court and the message says they are closed. I will try again at 830am.

ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-TWO DOLLARS?!??

I'm with Sapphire - that is WAY outta line, IMO!! Sorry, but there's simply NO way to justify that kinda cost in my book. Maybe $50, tops but above that, no freakin' way!

Good to see that police are actually working (sarcasm)

Because I was wondering where the @#$% they were this morning at 6:50am during rush hour when I saw 2 different drivers on I-35 driving at 55MPH (65MPH speed limit) on the left lane with 1/4 mile of nothing in front of them and about 1000 cars behind them.

Seems someone blogged about this last month.

The ticket is amazingly around $200.00. What would you say if you were me? I'm tempted to say that San Antonio has gone to a new low in their money raising quota and isn't there better use of their time.
