I would love an NFL or MLB team, however a fortune 500 company would be better for the city, IMO

Default No substitute for the Big Leagues

There is no doubt in my mind that this city and this region would benefit the most from having the NFL and MLB move in to town. I lived in the WDC area for many years and I can comment first hand on how an NFL team can bolster and unite a community. Washington, DC, MD, VA embrace the Redskins completely and have for decades. Every game is a huge event and the city shuts down virtually for the three hours that the Redskins play. And it is especially intense around town when it's Dallas or Philly week.

Aside from all of the economic benefits that having NFL football in town are the intangible things that a team brings as I described above. The sense of pride and unity that comes from watching your team compete and not some team from 300 miles away is unparalleled. Since moving to San Antonio two years ago I dearly miss going to FedEx to see my Redskins every season. But I know from the looks of things around San Antonio that it will have it's own team very soon. The city is becoming too big for the NFL to ignore anymore.

PS: I still get to watch the Redskins because I have DirecTV's Sunday Ticket. So it isn't so bad during the football season. The thought of having to watch the Cowboys every Sunday is revolting to me.

Just an FYI in response to the second option, San Antonio has a good amount of Fortune 500 Companies....Valero, AT&T, Tesoro, USAA, and Clear Channel are all Fortune 500. Also Rush Enterprises in New Braunfels is 779

FORTUNE 500 2007: States - Texas

I LOVE baseball...but my vote goes for an NFL team

Out of the choices....for the overall good of the entire city, there needs to be more controlled development ALL OVER! Can you imagine the gridlock going to a MAJOR LEAGUE event if things don't slow down? OMG...I used to live in the mid cities area of DFW.....forget going to Arlington when there was a Rangers game!....and now the COWBOYS are moving to Arlington too! What is wrong with those people???????? Money quickly out trumps the quality of life! I'm so glad I'm out of that traffic hell!

The construction and traffic in SA right now is one of the most talked about topics in the city.....all due to this fast and furious development and influx to SA. City Council and Bexar County better pull the reigns in on the development.....it's not long "going to be a nightmare"....it already is!!

I am surprised that a Light Rail was not an option. I would say a Light Rail System and then an NFL team 2nd.

I think we need more skate parks, legal places for kids to do graffiti, more focus on the animal population problem, more focus on the homeless problem, more focus on education, more focus on treatment and education for hard drugs, for the Spurs to win another title next year, a better night life or a night life district, more props from celebrities and decriminalization of marijuana (tax it, drive the big dealers out of business by allowing licensed growers).

wCat - I'm with you 100%!!!
I don't believe most San Antonioans want their city to become another LA......I mean, look at all the folks moving here from CA and FL - not because they are inexplicably drawn to SA/Texas lifestyle but because the unbridled growth (and loose lending) which made housing unaffordable AND horribly unattractive in FL and CA. Is that what WE want? Because it can certainly happen here.

SA and more other Texas metros will never become like Florida or California in terms of housing simply because of all the land we have.
